Richard Reoch
President, Shambahala International
speaking on
"Waging Peace in the time of War"
Richard Reoch, President of Shambhala International, one of the largest Buddhist communities in the western world, has devoted his working life to defending human rights, protecting the environment and promoting peace. Formerly the global media chief of Amnesty International, Richard is a trustee of the Rainforest Foundation. He heads the International Working Group on Sri Lanka, an organization dedicated to ending the Buddhist world's longest running war.
In his address to the interfaith gathering, Reoch will ask what role can the world's wisdom traditions play in building peace. How do we promote attitudes that foster respect for human dignity and communal harmony? How can the spiritual dimension be brought to bear on the resolution of conflict at all levels?
In common with the world's other great spiritual traditions, the Buddhist heritage urges engagement with the sufferings of humanity and reverence for life in all its forms. How can we work together in deepening and manifesting this common vision?
Come at 6:30 p.m. to stroll through the CONNECTIONS art exhibit (click here for more information on this exhibit). At 7:00 p.m. we will enjoy a dinner buffet with vegetarian options (by Selma's Catering). Music will be provided by Stephanie Barrett and Karl Schreiber of Temple Adath Israel.
